Architectural Design 111
Project 1: Textile, Texture & Technique: Fashion Runway Installation
The module started off with group work, assigning in groups of 4 of us to design a fashion runway installation to our assigned cultural group that is present in Melaka, my group's being Kristang (Portuguese Malaccan)
The idea for our group's model mainly comes from the movement of fabric within the dances of the culture as they twist and twirl around the dance floor. So to full incorporate it into our design, we did our best to mimic the dance into the structure, placement and the seating positions in this space with our MOCK MODELS
From all that is seen above, produced the final mock model for our runway. In this model, the main emphasis rests on the facade of the runway, being a sturdy fabric whose structure is reinforced with concrete beams, which allows the runway to customise the look and sway of the fabric and ventilation of the area. From this model, my group and I were very satisfied in how it conveyed in encasing the users in the world of fashion.
And from these brainstorming models, my group came up with the final product:
THROUGH THE LAYERS
Within the 4 week timeframe, I can firmly state that this first project was a great introduction into fashion gallery designing, and got me and my teammates engaged in the project
Project 11A: Sense, Culture and Site - Contextual Analysis
This is the first part of project two, which introduces us to our site of the module and guides us on site data collection and presentation, where in tutorial groups we are split up to not only gather resources about the site conditions, but also about our given cultural groups to elaborate on
Project 11B: Form, Content and Poetics - Melaka Fashion Gallery
This is the second part of project two, which becomes individual and focuses on each of our own interpretation of a fashion gallery with context to our assigned cultural group
Above are the final boards I produced for this final project. The main inspiration of concept comes from the Branyo dance that is commonly associated with any celebration that the Kristang partake in. Appearance-wise, the form derives its likeness from the Encore itself, presenting a monochrome exterior, which encases a vibrant and jouyous interior
In terms of materiality, the structure mainly composes of concrete to maintain strong durability against weather conditions with angled flat roofs to add to the design elements. Every element of design is considered within the building, from the roofs, to the circulation of user throughout the building, to even the windows and doors taking advantage of the ocean's breeze

At the end of this module, I can confidently say that my knowledge of designing has breached of what is the standard of learning with the exploration of fashion galleries and runways. To say that it was challenging is an understatement, as it was indeed tough to push through, but it was truly all worth in the end for the knowledge that has been taught.

My tutor, Mr. Nazmi, is excellent at guiding and assisting in problem solving when it comes to every tutorial session, in supporting my ideas and suggesting a few alternatives to encourage me to design out of the box.

Ms Dee was an excellent module coordinator in how the lectures and lessons were prepared, as well as the workshops in particular, as they taught me very well on not only the Architectural Design Process, but also on pacing myself when designing anything that I am tasked with.
