TULC'S BSC ARCH - Siti Aiesya Goh

Project 2: Structure and Body (Bamboo)

The second project, more appropriately labeled "Bamboo" set us to the task of understanding and applying ergonomics and anthropometrics to create a suitable structure for the human body following a certain theme. The final product, to be placed in USJ2's kebun komuniti. My group had been given the prompt of "Celebration", thus setting us off to divide our 20-man team into groups of 4 to each come up with initial ideas and test models. After the first evaluation, both by our tutors and the clients during our first site visit, another set of test models were created. From this, a final model was selected and further developed to become our guidelines for constructing the actual 1:1 creation using dry bamboo.

The MYBamboo project was by far the best and most experience-filled project I've had the great opportunity to go through this semester. In my opinion, I enjoyed construction the most, as it is the most hands-on activity that the project offered. Hearing other's guidance and crits, along with seeing their ideas come to fruition through group discussions and their test models also helped in widening the scope of Architecture further beyond what I already know and come to expect. The satisfaction of seeing the 1:1 structure being brought to life during construction was immense and visiting the structures nearing the end of semester was equally as so.
